Helm-link also ships with an AC/DC convertor, this can used if mounting Helm-link behind a Salon TV/monitor.
Furuno TZTX requires part #
It is recommended to use manufacturer specific HDMI or USB cables if available
The Helm-link device needs to be mounted in a dry secure location such as high inside the helm console or behind the Salon TV. Helm-link is not waterproof and warranty will not cover water damage.
The supplied GPS reciever can be mounted inside the console, avoid mounting it under a compass metal object. The Helm-link unit has a preinstalled GPS reception app that can help to find the best location for the GPS reciever.
The unit can be powered by the supplied 110V transformer or with the supplied 12V power cord. If using the 12V cord you must connect to a 12V DC source with a 5 amp fuse. It is recommended to use a switched source to allow for easy rebooting of the device.
Connect the HDMI cable from the Helm-link to your compatible chartplotter's HDMI input. Connect the USB 2.0 to the Helm-link and the USB micro to the chartplotter's USB micro port.
Attach the WIFI antenna and the GPS antenna as per the diagram. Leave the GPS antenna puck unmounted for now. It is recommended to check the GPS signal strength with the preinstalled app before affixing the puck.
After the connections have been made and power is restored, power up your MFD/chartplotter and the Helm-link device. Helm-link will begin to boot up. In your MFD/chartplotter menu choose the correct HDMI input and select "USB touch control" to turn on this function. Exit back to Video screen you should now see and have control of the Helm Link box.
It is recommended to power up the MFD/chartplotter first, then Helm-link to allow the Helm-link to achieve a proper "handshake" with the MFD to provide smooth touchscreen control.
If the Helm Link is connected to a TV or other non-touch screen monitor a USB mouse can be used to control and use your desired apps. A keyboard can also be used if needed. Helm-link will accept bluetooth accessories also.
To check the current GPS signal, your Helm-link has a pre-installed app. From the home screen swipe up. The secondary home screen is now displayed, choose the "GPS" app and a signal strength screen will be visible. It is recommended to move the GPS puck if needed to achieve a better signal. Allow 2-3 minutes after repositioning the puck to verify signal strength.
The next step is to set up your WiFi connection. This is easily done by choosing "WiFi" from the upper left drop screen or by going to the "gear" icon and choosing settings. Choose your boats WiFi network and sign in.
The bluetooth function can also be set up and the Helm Link can be used to stream audio to a stereo or compatible bluetooth audio device.
You are now ready to begin installing your favorite apps.
Once you choose "playstore" you will be asked to sign in to a Google account. This is the same account you have if you have a gmail or Google search login. Once signed in, download and install the desired apps and they will automatically appear on the Helm Link main screen. For IOS users, the same app you use on your IPhone/IPad should be available to download within the playstore. Once installed/opened they are are virtually the same.
To run a downloaded app, simply choose the app from the Helm Link home screen and sign in to your account if necessary. The app will automatically sign you in the next time you open it. Some apps will also require that you enable "GPS location" in the settings menu. This will allow the Helm Link to provide accurate positioning to the desired apps and improve performance.
